There was a spot near City Walk called Saladicous. Contrary to its name the menu did not indeed focus on salads, they had great pasta instead. My mom and I loved the free bread rolls and butter. I remember thinking how cool it was that the bread was black, until I discovered they would dye it with squid ink. My mom laughed when I got disgusted and stopped eating them. I guess somewhere along the way, they permanently shut down. Maybe something to do about their misleading branding. I used to see the retired listing on Google Maps a couple years ago, but now it’s completely gone.

Mom also loved Shakespeare’s cafe. You guys remember that one?? It was the perfect spot for a lazy breakfast. The decor was outdated, but who cares. They had comfortable couches, and you didn’t have to wait hours to get a table. It’s where my mom let me have shisha for the first time. I didn’t want to upset her by mentioning that I had shisha without her, so I went along pretending it was a new experience. Shakespeare closed its final locations in 2025.

My mom also loved a good deal. So when she saw a BMW offer that came with a free tv, she went for it. “Surprise, this is your new car!”, she told me as she waltzed in one day. The TV that came with the car took up the entire wall of our tiny living room. I couldn’t stop laughing. It was Covid, but mom knew how to live. A couple weeks ago, I made the decision to retire that trusty BMW for a new car.

I made a personal promise to myself to write about new topics on this blog, and I know it’s been a while since mom left - but at least I had things and places that.. I don’t know, she could live through if that makes sense?

I just don’t know how to feel seeing these little pieces of her disappear as well.
